The 2010 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship Season Celebration

This year's AMA Motocross Banquet & Season Celebration was held in a magnificent banquet room at the Pala Resort & Casino. The room was decorated beautifully, lined with motocross dcor, as well as a stage decorated with the championship bikes and awards. The line-up of food, appetizers, desserts, and beverages was very elegant and delicious.

After dinner, the awards ceremony began. Jason Weigandt, along with Tim Cotter hosted the show. And of course Jason started it just like he does many of his shows - after slamming down an energy drink.

Jason went on to talk about each round of this summer's AMA Motocross Nationals, with a list of funny jokes pertaining to all the good and bad situations at each of the races. After that, the awards and trophies were handed out.

The night was filled with special memories, good times, and laughs. One poignant moment was when Kevin Windham accepted the award for 'Sportsperson of the Year'. Kevin always has a great way of expressing himself, but made a great comment towards his friend & the team manager, Mike LaRocco. He commented on Mike's motivation, that pushed Kevin to work hard and do his best ... it was touching, but at the same time very funny.

RJ Says: 1985 LA Coliseum Supercross video - part 1

Where supercross started - the fabled Los Angeles Coliseum in 1972. This video is from 1985 at the L. A. Coliseum Supercross.

This video is part 1 of 2. I wanted to get it up for you as quickly as possible. In this video, for better or worse, you'll see a lot of me (I'm number 5 on a Yamaha). But in the second video that's coming, you'll see a lot more of my friends in the race like David Bailey, Bob Hannah, Jeff Ward, Goat Breker, Broc Glover, Ron Lechien, Johnny O'Mara, and others.

I think in 1985, we ran two 'main events' at each supercross. Part of what you see here (if my memory is correct) is me winning the first 'main event'.

And stay tuned for the second video! Both videos have the fabled Peristyle uphill / downhill. And especially in the second video coming late next week, with guys like Jeff Ward, David Bailey, Bob Hannah, Broc Glover, Ron Lechien, Johnny O'Mara and myself - you'll see riders with about 33 AMA Supercross and Motocross titles combined!

Hope you enjoy the videos ...

At the 13th annual 'A Day in the Dirt' I got a chance to talk with Sayaka "Teriyaki Sauce" Kaneshiro, WMX Pro #15

How was your racing today?

It was good, I thought we had a practice first, I went out and it was actually a race. I was just racing and riding around, I felt like ... WOW!

What did you think of the event overall?

It was to difficult racing for me, because I didn't ride my pace. I rode about 6th place, less than I wanted to. I got the same number as last year, I just tried to do my best.

RJ Says - 2012 Anaheim 1 Supercross, Phoenix Supercross preview

Rick Johnson is a seven time AMA Motocross / Supercross Champion. 1984, '86, '88 AMA 250 National MX Champion. 1987, '88 500cc National Motocross Champion. 1986, '88 AMA Supercross Series Champion.

The first race of the 2012 season has come and gone. I'll share with you my opinion on the top guys in the 450 class, the 250 West winner, and what I'd work on if I was racing in Phoenix Round 2.

Ryan Villopoto - I feel Ryan came ready to race. He picked up right where he left off last year. He looks better than I anticipated, as I thought he might come in a bit over confident. If you judge it by this first race, he's in a class by himself.

2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series, an FIM World Championship - Anaheim 2 Recap, San Diego Preview

Updated Friday 4pm! Only a few short weeks ago, moto fans couldn?t wait for the start of the 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series. Now, we already find ourselves five rounds deep and more than halfway through the West Coast Lites Championship. Anaheim II saw repeat winners in both classes for the first time this year, with Ryan Villopoto taking home the premier class win, and Eli Tomac capturing his third dominant win in a row in Lites racing.

At the start of the day, Justin Brayton came away with a surprise fast lap, claiming the number one qualifying time in the last practice session. The Honda rider?s speed did not stop there, as he would go onto nearly holeshot the main event, and then battle with the front pack of riders before finishing fifth for the night. Brayton seems to have stepped up his pace since Los Angeles, where he failed to qualify for the main event.

With the Anaheim II track being one of the best of the series so for, there were some excellent battles during the heat races, but the most attention-grabbing incident happened to be when a rider was on his own out front. James Stewart was leading the first heat when he made a mistake in the first rhythm section that sent him to the ground violently. The JGR rider lay on the ground for a quite a while with the Asterisk medics at his side, until he was able to walk off the track on his own. The crash forced Stewart into the Last Chance Qualifier, which he won handily.

RJ Says: Phoenix Supercross 2012 thoughts, Los Angeles Supercross preview

First off, I want to congratulate KTM, Roger De Coster, and Ryan Dungey for KTM's first Supercross Class main event win. It's huge. I know of all the work they have done in the past few years in developing winning machines, teams, and more. Look at what they did with Stefan Everts and Pit Beirer in developing the 350 SX model - two world championships so far with Antonio Cairoli.

KTM in America has been working on the new 450 that Ryan races. It's a new effort, on a new bike. For Ryan Dungey, his win last Saturday in Phoenix goes a long way in many areas, but I feel the most important is that it adds confidence to the team and Ryan.

2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series, an FIM World Championship - LA Recap, Oakland Preview

We are now three rounds deep into the 2012 Monster Energy Supercross Series, and things are beginning to heat up. Last weekend in Los Angeles, two riders rode off with solid wins - Chad Reed in the premiere 450 Supercross class, and Eli Tomac in the 250 Lites West Regional Supercross class.

There was a serious crash involving Trey Canard and Ryan Morais. We will continue to keep you updated as to their health status whenever we receive updates. Both Rick Johnson and Jeremy McGrath in their blogs of this past week commented about the crash:

Rick Johnson / RJ Says blog

Jeremy McGrath / King's Korner blog

Chad Reed took his first win of the season in the Supercross class, while Eli Tomac did the same in Lites racing. But the way the two riders accomplished their feats was completely different.

In the initial gate drop for the 450 Supercross class, Ryan Dungey grabbed the holeshot, mere inches in front of Defending AMA Monster Energy Supercross Champion Ryan Villopoto, but by the second turn, Villopoto had already taken over the lead. Considering his lap times in the heats and practice, the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider looked to be on his way to another runaway victory. But then the red flag came out (because of the crash involved Trey and Ryan) which forced a restart. Before you continue below

RJ Says: 100% is Back!

100%? It is how I try to live my life.

In 1982, I got a phone call from a guy I knew at the races. His name was Drew Lien. The conversation went like this:

Drew: I dig your bull dog style and never give up attitude. I'm starting a company and would love to sponsor you. I can't pay you right now, but I will give you all the free product you can have.

Me: Whats it called?

Drew: 100%

Me: What will you sell?

Drew: Heat shields and numbers.

Me: I'm in...

A few months later, all the top racers ran 100%: Bailey, O'mara, Ward, Glover, Lechien, Kehoe, Holley, and the list goes on.

From that point on 100% has been my life motto. I am giving 100% in whatever I do. Truck racing, coaching, working or loving my family. Win or lose. Happy or sad.

If I am giving 100%, I can go to sleep KNOWING I have done my best.

Drew has past, but his dream lives on. He was a special person with a big dream. God Speed my friend.

HOW MUCH EFFORT DO YOU GIVE?

2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series, an FIM World Championship - Dallas Recap, Atlanta Preview

Updated 4:30pm Pacfic Time, Friday February 24: Last week may have marked the biggest change so far in the 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series. Not only did Ryan Villopoto ride away with his third win in a row, but his closest competitor, Chad Reed, crashed out of the race and the series.

The Dallas Supercross 20 lap main event was shaping up to be one of the best of the season. Villopoto and Reed both had great starts and were in first and second by the end of the first lap. As the laps clicked off something became apparent: Reed was riding faster than Villopoto. With the race nearing the halfway point, Reed looked poised to set-up a pass. Making up fractions of a second per lap, Reed was soon right on Villopoto?s rear wheel and the number 22 Honda seemed to be aware of the sections in which he was quicker. Heading into the sand section, where Chad had been making up time, the two riders were very close to one another, and then something went wrong.

Chad had been one of the only riders tripling into the section, but this time around, his bike did not level out in the air as it should have. Instead the front end dove just enough to send Chad and his bike violently to the ground when the front wheel touched down.

Villopoto would go on to to take an unchallenged win. Reed, on the other hand, suffered one of the worst injuries in his professional career: broken ribs, a broken tib/fib, torn ACL, and a broken vertebrae. He will be out for at least the remainder of the Supercross series.

The Superbowl XLIV champions, the New Orleans Saints, have many fans - among them is none other than the number 14 in Supercross, Kevin Windham. While the NFL season started when Supercross was in its off season, Kevin was able to take part in season tickets to his favorite NFL team - da' Saints. Eventually the 2010 Supercross season got underway in January, which meant Kevin was flying off after those Saturday night Main Events back East to watch the New Orleans Saints Playoff games.

On February 7, 2010 the New Orleans Saints headed to the Superbowl in Miami, Florida and Kevin Windham and his wife Dottie made arrangements to attend this momentous occasion. First, however Kevin had to finish up a Supercross race in San Diego the night before.

Interview: AMA Women's Motocross Champion Jessica Patterson

Jessica Patterson is the 2010 AMA Women's National Motocross Champion. Here is Supercross.com's latest interview with JP$.

Jessica, congratulations on your 2010 AMA Women's National MX Championship. You walked away with some amazing trophies from this summer's race wins .... where do you put all those great awards, and what does it mean to you when you see them?

Thanks Annj. I usually go straight to my parents house and drop them all off and let my mom decorate the house with them. But recently she told me that I have started to bring home too many, and to figure out where to put them at my place because her place is now full.

Her suggestion to me was to rent a storage unit if I didn?t want to keep them all over the house. They are all just hanging out at her house right now, and eventually when I decide where I want to move, then I will take them with me and start the decorating.

To see the trophies is pretty cool. It is what I have been working so hard for, and after struggling for for two years and now coming back and winning the championship in 2010, it makes it that much better. Seeing that I have all those number 1 trophies from each race except for two, it reminds me of how good of a year it really was, so it makes me really happy and makes me want to keep pushing.

Send Chad Reed a "Get Well" message here
